McAfee recently launched a Rootkit deterrent application, Mcafee's Rootkit Detective.
The application practically detects and cleans, most rootkits, that today infect and run on your system. The application is still in its beta stage, and is developed by McAfee Avert labs, with cutting edge research and resources at their beckoning. The beta version of McAfee Rootkit Detective is only aimed at advance computer users. The advance users can use the rootkit detective application, with help of McAfee Avert Labs and / or Technical Support, which is provided with the application itself. Users, please be advised, if the application is used improperly, the application may damage other applications installed along with your operating system.

The McAfee Rootkit Detective application comes with host of features. The application has a hands on system, that detects rootkit process, files and registry entries that are hidden from the user. The application provides, detailed information about almost all the processes that are running on the system. The application also provides and in-depth information on various system resources like hooks, kernel import/export address table hooks. Apart from scanning and detecting rootkits, the application efficiently cleans the computer and removes all found malicious objects effectively by renaming and deleting the hidden files and / or registry. It also provides the user an efficient interface, that helps terminate the malicious processes.
