A malware author, going by the name of "Our Godfather", has been posting a spyware application designed to steal or dig out the target users or victims Windows Live Messenger password. The spyware has been posted on various torrent web sites, and is being unknowingly downloaded by BitTorrent users around the world.
The spyware application comes in the form of a bittorrent download, that attaches itself with other downloads that you may be searching for. The Spyware has been classified as a trojan application, that steals your Windows Live passwords. The spyware application, on some torrent web sites also disguises itself.
Once downloaded the spyware application, installs and disguises itself as a fake windows live Messenger login screen and prompt the infected systems users to enter login details, which include the username and the password. Once these details have been entered, they are saved in a file called pas.txt in the C: root drive.
The spyware trojan application has been named as "MSNfake-M", and definitions are available for all leading antispyware applications. According to security experts, the author has distributed the spyware or malware application, which poses as the latest version of Windows Live Messenger, which works in conjunction with other malware or spyware applications authored, that seek to dig out online banking details, using the so found login credentials.
The trojan, when not recognized by some antispyware applications, is albeit shielded as a generic malware or spyware application. All computer users, who indulge in downloading software and other applications from torrents are advised to keep their antispyware definitions regularly updated.
