The biggest blogging' spot on the internet, Google's Blogger.com, is also home to a very large number of phishing sites, researcher's report.
The owners and creators of these websites and blogs are using some of Google's own technologies and other spamming software's to actually, aggressively, spam internet users and increase the traffic on their blogs, and websites external to these blogs, hosted at blogger.com. Blogger's and avid readers beware, one such blog, belonging to a rip-off business "Pharmacy Express", redirects its users to the web site of "Pharmacy Express" and gathers the personal information of potential targets. Adding more to this problem, is the fact that a number of Blogs on the Google's Blogger.com are now home to various malicious code. Researcher's found out, whilst surfing, that some blogs are home to the Wonka Trojan. Some blogs are more of spamming tools, like the ones used by black hat SEO's as link farms for their clients and various advertising agencies. More than 9% of the blogs belong to porn sites, these blogs are used for advertising and traffic generation for such web sites. Blogs covering subjects like schools, Christmas, girlfriends, star trek, etc. This has raised security concerns, questioning the abuse of one of the biggest and busiest blogging foundations, Blogger.com, that hackers and phisher's are using because of its popularity. It remains to be seen that will Google implement counter measures to secure its avid readers, visitors and members alike. No official word from Blogger.com or Google has been issued yet, although there are security alerts being issued against such blogs by third party anti-spyware and anti-virus vendors.
